Ali, When I here about blockchain I get goosebumps. Its a future right in front of us in these present days. To the snippets 1. Blockchain in regards to educational certificates is not new. It has been done http://www.blockcerts.org/ and its open source. Government and DApps developers look into it and borrow. 2. The other use cases of blockchain in governance should come from the *corruption problem* and how BC can take down this monster. Listers, While this is certainly huge - it's important to note Blockchain is not applicable to everything - it's a Time stamp distributed ledger. The key word is Time stamp where an existing authority is not "trusted". I can definitely see the land registry angle however am not too sure re medical records, the question would be what/why is being solved. Wish someone from the CSs team would give us the reasoning behind this. Eric Sent from my iPad

Hi Erick, I believe blockchain can be applied to medical records. We are currently programme managers for MoH and WHO in deploying a county-wide, and possibly later a nationwide, electronic health management system for public health facilities. One of the challenges comes with trying to ensure security and authenticity while the patient visits multiple health centres and hospitals in the county. BC could be used to 1) Ensure their medical records can't be interfered with, guaranteeing their authenticity (important for insurance, legal cases and the person themselves). 2) Help confirming the patient's identity so as to link new records to existing ones, no matter the facility they are being treated at. Maybe BC could be the answer, maybe not, but certainly worth investigating! If there's someone interested in working with us on this let us know. Stuart, I would be interested to know what you are doing in healthcare. We have quite some experience implementing healthcare solutions. Onto Distributed Ledger and their polar opposites, Centralized Ledgers (what we call databases), I would think most healthcare solutions would work from a centralized database pretty well. This is based on the fact that you don't have 'credibility' issues with centralized medical data I would presume. For Land Records, however, the balance shifts to distributed ledgers as *authenticity* of the centralized databases is always a major problem here. The biggest problem is knowing that the land certificate (Title) that one holds is the only true one, if it gets changed, then everyone interested in the certificate is notified and the history of such changes are 'attached' to the certificate. Interesting viewpoints. While thinking about DLT I think the consequences of DLT will be most profoundly felt in Infrastructure where developments relating to Identity, Privacy and security are taking shape. From this user cases benchmarking will be done and other industries will plug in. As a point to note we currently don't have have any benchmarking white papers on DLT all we have/hear are "elavator pitches" on what it "can" do. I did engage Vitalik ( Ethereum Co-founder) and he said we will probably start seeing this in the coming year. This however will continue to be an I stressing space. Regards, Eric Sent from my iPad

Stuart,
I would be interested to know what you are doing in healthcare.

I believe blockchain can be applied to medical records.

Stuart Very interesting. Would be glad to hear whether there's a legal issue to deal with when it comes to Portability of Health Records. Do we have legislation in Kenya that smoothens this? What are the pitfalls? Or has this been resolved? One of the key issues hindering the provision of healthcare is definitely the cost of healthcare. Access to health information however is another key reason as to why Healthcare isn't universally efficient as it should be. We could probably borrow from the HIPAA (Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996) which is the United States legislation that provides data privacy and security provisions for safeguarding medical information. Hi All, good news and there is very little expertise in the Block Chain space and still the technology is emerging. It is great to begin with a POC as none of the large IT outfits have commercially working and viable products yet. Therefore in conclusion this will be expensive as so called IT Co will charge for experts who are learning at a clients expense etc. My 2 cents worth *Baiju Shah** |*Managing Partner* |* Phone: +254 701691570 ** *|*Mobile: +254 787332247 *|* Skype: baijushah* |* Email: baiju@telemedia.co.ke* | * *Telemedia Africa Ltd* *. * The information contained within this e-mail and any attachments ("Email") may contain legally privileged, proprietary and confidential information intended solely for the recipients listed as addresses.
