Among the dead was renowned Ghanaian poet and statesmen Kofi Awoonor. Ghanaian poet Awoonor, 78, who was once his country's representative to the United Nations, was killed while shopping with his son, who was injured in the attack, Ghanaian officials said......very sad but the forces of evil would not prevail. Eric, I am sorry for what has happened to our Ghanaian brothers. News comes in in bits and every bit of it angers and leads to bitterness. I pray that God will help us forgive these senseless killers. I just came across a quote from Anne Frank which is descriptive and so wise for the moment. She writes: 'It really is a wonder that I have not dropped all my ideals, because they seem so absurd and impossible to carry out. Yet I keep them because in spite of everything I still believe that people are really good at heart I simply can't build up my hopes on a foundation consisting of confusion, misery, and death. I see the world gradually being turned into a wilderness, I hear the ever approaching thunder, which will destroy us too, I can feel the sufferings of millions and yet, if I look up to the heavens, I think that it will all come right, that this cruelty too will end, and that peace and tranquility will return agaiin.' She was only 16 when she died, but she had such a beautiful commitment to hope. This morning a friend wrote to me and she said. There has been such a negativity among good people in discussions that all of this negative energy has to have an effect on people who are really confused and opt for violence. I was heartened to hear the latest comments of the Pope. Every bit helps. God bless us all. Ndemo.

I know several members that have been affected by the Westgate attacks. As we put them in our prayers, lets remember the Victorian poem Invictus by William Ernest Henley. Out of the night that covers me, Black as the pit from pole to pole, I thank whatever gods may be For my unconquerable. In the fell clutch of circumstances I have not winced nor cried aloud. Under the bludgeonings of chance My head is bloody, but unbowed. Beyond this place of wrath and tears Looms but the horror of the shade, And yet the menace of the years Finds, and shall find, me unafraid. It matters not how straight the gate, How charged with punishment the scroll, I am the master of my fate; I am the captain of my soul. -- ______________________ Mwendwa Kivuva twitter.com/lordmwesh kenya.or.ke | The Kenya we know
Daktari, Even as I pray for the deceased and wish a quick recovery to the injured, I am afraid I have to own up to being one of those that are furious and full of negative thought. Where Children are concerned especially, the mother instinct kicks in, and my heart is way too heavy... This is day 3 have the children been fed considering those merciless killers? I dont know, and it is destressing, I cant get the image of that father with a two year old and wife inside the mall out of my mind... Dear all, I watched the Kenyan President yesterday with great horror at the Al-Shabab attack on innocent people. My heart goes out to you all my dear friends at this time of great trial. Our prayer is that God grant you all and the country at large what it takes to bear this loss graciously. May God grant all those who have lost their lives eternal rest and those who have been injured a speedy and full recovery. On the other hand may the perpetrators be apprehended and given the full & just treatment. Evil shall never overcome good.
