County Governors and the Need to Embrace ICTs
Listers, Today, Governor of Nairobi County, Kidero (or is he H.E....how do you address them?) posted on his twitter account a note inviting Kenyans to the first public participation meeting to plan for the County. As most of us are at work during the day (or tarmacking) , how are we expected to meaningful participate? I dare suggest that County Governors embrace ICTs and have "live" online coverage of the event in a way that those unable to attend can still directly contribute via whatever means possible - radio, sms, social media, digital hangout etc etc? Any thoughts on how this can be done to embrace EVERYONE based on technologies and tools available in people's hands (not forgetting the digitally excluded). Ideas? Edith
Edith, KICTANET are unable to use technology beyond posting which means we do not have the moral right to request others to do so. I missed a meeting at KEPSA to discuss the KIF's strategy document because the invite was not sent as a "meeting request" for which my confirmation would have automatically updated the calendar on my computer and my phone with an automated reminder. So, before we start asking others to embrace technology let us be seen to be doing it first. Robert, I dont think our use or non use of technology should prevent others from embracing it to reinvent governance. As a matter of fact Kidero appreciated the suggestion and i believe we should be seeing some changes. ______________________________________ From: kictanet [kictanet-bounces+eadera=idrc.ca@lists.kictanet.or.ke] on behalf of Brian Munyao Longwe [blongwe@gmail.com] Sent: Thursday, April 25, 20 Cc: KICTAnet ICT Policy Discussions Subject: Re: [kictanet] County Governors and the Need to Embrace ICTs wewe Robert, stop blaming technology for your disorganization! *hides in deep underground bunker* Brian On Wed, Apr 24, 2013 at 6:31 PM, robert yawe <robertyawe@yahoo.co.uk<mailto:robertyawe@yahoo.co.uk>> wrote: Edith, KICTANET are unable to use technology beyond posting which means we do not have the moral right to request others to do so.
