Construction at Konza City to start in three months time
Construction at Konza City, Kenya’s pioneer technopolis, is expected to start in the next three months. The chairman of the Konza Technopolis Development Authority (Kotda) John Ngumi said companies are waiting for an ongoing survey to be completed to start construction of infrastructure. http://www.nation.co.ke/business/Construction-at-Konza-City-to-start-in-thre...
While I commend the management board of Konza City for this initiative, I think they are hiding some truths from us. When the City Masterplan was launched awhile back, there was a lot hope and expectations. however, things took a different twist when there were corruption allegations against Dr. Ndemo. To cut the long story short, when the investors heard of the corruption allegations they pulled off. Who really, in his right mind would invest in a programme where you are unsure of the ROI? Perhaps, we need to do away with middle men and such people for the technolopolis to take place, effective. Let us wait and see... three months is just a blink away. Solomon, Kindly get in touch with me cnadeya@ict.go.ke and cc konza@ict.go.ke. I will ensure you get a status update and you can and we can take you through the details of where . President Kibaki launched the Project, not the Masterplan, it was not ready by then. The team will gladly share any information that you may want to go over as this is a public project, there is nothing to hide. Please also do not rely so much on the way the print media sometimes report information. What is on-going is the Cadastral survey to demarcate the parcels in Phase 1. This should be done within 3 months to allow the other infrastructure teams that were dependant on this survey to come in. This includes electricity, water, roads etc. The basic horizontals have to be done for the for the verticals to come up. There is nothing to hide. Dear Catherine and Lucas, Thank you for the update. I think with the sharing of any information regarding the progress of Konza City, is the best way in which we can talk about openness. Thank you again Solomon On 21 March 2014 15:14, Mwendwa Kivuva <Kivuva@transworldafrica.com> wrote:

Solomon, the passion you have for Konza is good. I like it. I don't think there is laxity with the current secretariat. A while back, I got hold of a progress document from KOTDA and I liked the progress. After devolution, post Kibaki era, government might have shifted focus to National Government operations and sidelined key developments that happen in counties. This is just a hypothesis. If certain region do not have muscle in government, they might not see Central government initiatives and funding go their way, and might be forced to invest their devolution allocation fuds. I've heard leaders wrangle why the government might want to invest in Konza, located in Makueni county at the expense of other counties! Which criteria was used to choose it? And such arguments will take us back to stone age.
