The course is intended for lecturers and graduate students who plan to be instructors in universities and colleges. In support of engineering education at universities in Africa, the IEEE supports visiting lecturers to deliver short courses at participating African universities. Mr. Roozbeh Mehrdadi from the University of British Columbia (UBC) has been invited to deliver short courses in the month of August 2016. Roozbeh has been working at UBC (in the Electrical and Computer Engineering department) since 2000, where he has been advising and aiding professors and students in their hands-on research, teaching and lab projects. Roozbeh received his Master degree at UBC in 2005 in System on a Chip (SoC) design and verification methods. He was employed as lecturer at UBC and taught courses in Software Engineering, Operating Systems and Digital Design. This workshop will cover topics related to 1. Why Model and How to Model Complex Systems 2. What is UML and what are its basic notations 3. How to do requirement analysis and draw Use-Case diagrams and Why 4. How to capture communication in Sequence Diagrams 5. How to identify objects and their relationships 6. How to extract Class Diagrams from Objects and their relations 7. How to go from Class Diagrams to coding In each lecture, the topics will be presented via examples and interactive problem solving. By the end of the workshop, the participants could translate the UML models to C++ code.
