He applied alright!, just not the way “we”-wasio wenyewe- are all used to Edwin From: kictanet-bounces+eonchari=lynxbits.com@lists.kictanet.or.ke [mailto:kictanet-bounces+eonchari=lynxbits.com@lists.kictanet.or.ke] On Behalf Of robert yawe Sent: Monday, November 08, 2010 11:07 AM To: Edwin Cc: KICTAnet ICT Policy Discussions Subject: Re: [kictanet] Yawe for Post Master General Hi, Thanks for the input, but I wonder if there no way that us as interested parties in the effective operation of the Postal Corporation can actually have a say in who becomes Post Master General why cant we be the "wenyewe". Last I checked the post was not advertised after the previous PMG was sent home and I do not believe that Ali applied for the post, his appointment as you rightly say was a government appointment. How does the 'government" decide who to appoint? I strongly believe that with the support of the industry players such as all of you on this list and other groups such as KEPSA my shot at the post of PMG become brighter. Regards Aim for the sky. (Un?)fortunately Parastatal positions in Kenya are not elective ;-). Its been a while since I reviewed the Postal Act (possibly Kenya Comm. Act 1998) but i believe to be the Postmaster General, the Minister (now Hon. Pogishio) has to appoint you. But before he does so, the PCK Board has to send him the top 3names of the potential candidates. But before they send him the 3names, the position must(should?) be vacant. Last I heard was the retired General Ali had moved from shooting bullets to shooting stamps and was in charge - but of late I have been seeing someone signing off on his behalf in acting capacity. So maybe the position quietly went vacant. So keep an eye on Press Adverts, they may just advertise. However, I can assure you, your chances of getting the post is close to nil due to many reasons but chiefly among them - most of these parastatal jobs "zina-wenyewe" possibly until the new constitution kicks in nicely (post-2012). walu. --- On Mon, 11/8/10, robert yawe <robertyawe@yahoo.co.uk> wrote: From: robert yawe <robertyawe@yahoo.co.uk> Subject: Re: [kictanet] Yawe for Post Master General To: jwalu@yahoo.com Cc: "KICTAnet ICT Policy Discussions" <kictanet@lists.kictanet.or.ke> Date: Monday, November 8, 2010, 10:14 AM Hi, I believe I am one of very few who can straddle the 2 eras of mail & email to be able to appreciate how they converge in addition I have the passion to want to see Postal turned around to its full blossom. And most important I am not a retired civil servant who the government wants to put out to pasture, they have tried engineers, lawyers, military generals and many others and none was able to make any noticeable difference apart from maybe repaint the premises. On your parcels I have had the same issue with shipments from Amazon sometimes I will receive then items within a week other times a month but I realised that the problem is with how the US couriers handle overseas mail using some cheap middlemen. But when I ship from anywhere in the world including China using the EMS service and USPS in the USA my parcels arrive within 7 days which means that the main issue is the originating courier not Postal Corporation. For in country delivery Postal has no equal, with over 990 outlets spread across the entire country from end to end with a delivery of 3 days. With such a network even the Kenya National Examination Council really have no reason to deliver exam papers any other way, but the selfish interests of a few. So I don't ask people to send anything in the mail anymore, but to courier the items, or give them to someon who's traveling. So this situation could clearly do with some improvements. Robert, what's your qualification to turn this parastatal around? Many of us think that just because we rarely receive snail mail that it serves no purposes, we write articles and make statements of how email and instant messaging are the final nail in the coffin of Posta but I ask after your order the pair of shoes online and pay via mpesa or mkesha how do you expect to receive the shoes? SMS, email, or IM. I believe that we are doing a disservice to the country by killing Posta and someone needs to stand up and put Posta back to where it belongs as the enabler for e-commerce, e-learning, narrower of the digital divide and governance. I therefore offer myself as a candidate for Post Master General of Postal Corporation of Kenya.
