@ Walu This is reminiscent of the Moi days.

I've been having some unresolved headache concerning this issue. My matter, is generally asking, why did the President's Private Secretary have to write to MoIC concerning MTRs? Could he have hidden interests? Also, did Prof. Wanjohi approach this issue in a personal capacity using the President's seal? In my little opinion, if the law said we lower the MTRs to this much the CCK should go ahead and implement it, then wait to see if Wanjohi would fire the whole of CCK board and staff. My 2 cents Solomon

GG,
Looks like the Operators are trying to "SELF" regulate the industry through the two Principals :-). And now that the Chairman Eng. Okundi resigned yesterday, I see this behaviour getting worse in the mid-term...coz I think you needed a politician to tell-off the politicians - seeing that Dr. Ndemo and/or the DG could be smothered if they tried :-)
read on. ~~~~ In Summary
- Airtel managing director Shivan Bhargava is seeking audience with the two principals to discuss the government’s failure to effect agreed rate cuts to the tariff that mobile operators pay for terminating calls in their rival’s network. - In July last year, the MTR was supposed to fall to Sh1.44. However, President Mwai Kibaki ordered CCK to halt the glide path at Sh2.21 in a move that was seen as favoring Safaricom and Telekom Orange. - In a communication seen by the *Nation*, Mr Bhargava accuses the government of reneging on promises made when Bharti Airtel entered Kenya two years ago.

IN SUMMARY
- Although the authority is independent on paper, the offices of the President and Prime Minister have been issuing directives that mock its autonomy - Just a week after Wangusi's appointment, it emerged that the commission was restrained from implementing the new mobile termination rates by a new directive from the government - As he takes office, Mr Wangusi will have a hard task ensuring the industry is fairly regulated while at the same time appeasing powerful politicians
