As can be deduced from the many copyright/patent and other court cases, the law does inhibit investigation, since those opposing change use the laws meant to cure a different ill to stop the innovative entry from changing the way they do business. Innovation can still happen without infringing laws, but we will just take longer to get there, and the copyright holder will no longer be part of the change and they will die, with their copyrights. *Digital Business Models Should Have to Follow the Law, Too*
A timeless maxim suggests that it's better to ask forgiveness than permission. Nowhere is that more prominent than in the current crop of digital businesses, which tend to skirt laws they find inconvenient. Though these services and their innovative business models win acclaim from consumers and investors, their approach to the law is troubling -- both for its implications for civil society and in its contagious influence on other firms in turn pressured to skirt legal requirements.

I suspect this is a topic that will increasingly become pertinent. The Internet Governance system is something few understand and care about.
That is about to change.
Very quickly.
Terms like Third Party Liability, Permission based Marketing, Privacy, Net Neutrality will be something that you will need to bring yourself upto speed with.
Test your Internet Governance Literacy. How many of the above terms are you family with? Who do you think 'controls' the net?
