IDRC has been supporting a research study “assessing the effects of ICTs on perceptions about agricultural biotechnology in Africa (case of Kenya and Burkina Faso)”.
During this research in Kenya, one of the major challenges was getting agricultural radio scripts of past programs
to undertake a content analysis. Most media stations write over their tapes and there is no way of retrieving content for research, and/or future use/posterity. What ever happened to our archiving systems? And preserving our national heritage?
There is need for provisions in the law that enforce storage of aired digital content to facilitate related research activities and other “heritage” efforts. With the promotion of local content (60%?), this becomes ever more critical.
