The planned civic education has unfortunately been marred by logistical hurdles culminating in distortion of information as well as peddling of untruths by both sides of the referendum divide. It is disheartening that half truths and outright misleading information are being given to the unsuspecting members of public in a bid to lure them into taking positions on the proposed constitution. Fears are beginning to emerge that once again, the outcome of the August 4^th Referendum will leave Kenyans divided as was the case in 2005. As professionals and indeed professional bodies, we have a responsibility to ensure that Kenyans are properly informed particularly on issues that are within the realm of our expertise. There is need for active engagement to ensure that this process does not leave the country badly scarred and divided but rather emerge from the constitution making process stronger and united. APSEA is organizing a series of sector based workshops for professionals in order to interrogate the proposed constitution and how it affects the various sectors of professionals. At the end of the workshops, it is expected that professionals will serve as agents of change. The main Objective of the workshops is to enlighten Professional bodies and their members on the state of play in the constitutional review process. Other more specific objectives include:- i. To encourage professionals to remain engaged and proactive in the constitution making process ii. To foster ownership of the entire constitution making process by the Professionals. iii. To advocate and promote dialogue and reconciliation between various divergent views, especially between political and religious leaders and the civic society with a view of bringing in harmony and unity of purpose in Kenya . We are therefore pleased to invite you to the sector based workshop for professionals at the Silver Springs Hotel starting at 8.30. am on the dates indicated below: 1. Management, Finance & Law 28^th June 2010 2. Built and Natural Environment 29^th June 2010 3. Medicine and Health Environment 30^th June 2010 4. Media and Public Relations 1^st July 2010 Key speakers including constitutional lawyers and renowned professionals in the specific sectors have been invited to make presentations at the workshops. Participation at the workshop is free and therefore limited chances are available. Kindly confirm your participation with the Secretariat on [3]apsea@apsea.or.ke or 2222119. Yours faithfully, Dr. Daniel W. Ichang’i, Ph.D. (McGill), R. Geol., O.G.W.
