Hi All,
Just a reminder I hear more talks about ICT cutting across all sectors. It comes out quite clearly and has become a fact that I cannot dispute.
For that matter in any sector there might be need to define basic/level of ICT Knowledge with some sectors going further to introduce certifications for certain levels. One sector which for this sake I will call Main Stream ICT might will have several certifications due to cobweb nature of the ICT. As we discuss certification let us take note of the cobweb nature of ICT and that we cannot be master of the cobweb but let other sectors play they role. This was but just a thought.

Walu - the Accountants should not hand over anything. The Certificate
course we prepared for them is necessary to ensure that they are
computer literate. Conversely, ICT professionals need some basic
knowledge in accounts. Those of us who went tthrough the School of
Computing Science at Chiromo will remember that Introduction to
Accounting was an important service subject offered and moderated by the
department of Accounting to both undergraduate and Masters students. It
is necessary not to mix up service courses and certifications with
professionalism.
If you visited the page (www.ipthree.org) that I mentioned you will see
the first line reads "IT is a global industry. IT services are traded on
a massive scale and IT- related activity reacts to market forces and
moves in search of pools of professionally competent people. IT
practitioners too move around." Since IT people move around it is
necessary that anyone who claims to be "bright" in any area of IT
agree
to be subjected to examination and certification. Otherwise how can you
know who is who without papers? Even searching for a job in Microsoft
etc. the first thing they want to see is your papers. We should not
encourage ICT people to be LAZY and move around with no papers or
certifications simply in the name of "innovation". By the way it is
good
that YOU appear proud of YOUR OWN CERTIFICATIONS.
To quench your curiousity about my own professional certifications, I am
a Fellow of the Computer Society of Kenya (FCSK).
