I agree, I recently checked the Registrar of Political Parties portal on ecitizen and apparently I am a member of the Maendeleo Democratic Party, I don't know when or how I registered but they indicate the membership number as well. They have all the details, full names, constituency, ID, county and ward. How does this happen?

On the security collection of names, ID and email at times. Many do that for security purposes just incase. However, with the Data Protection Act and regulations in place the company in charge is to register with the ODPC.

I also wonder where they get people's numbers.  I am reminded of the way political parties registered people who are not their members, perhaps using our IDs and phone numbers.  This is the reason I am against security guards at different premises collecting these details.

Good morning Listers,

Have any of you received this (attached) unsolicited political text(s)? Where are these politicians getting people's phone numbers? And are they not aware that we now have a Data Protection Act?

KICTANet did a brief on Personal Data and Elections 2022  that assesses, the effect of the Data Protection Act 2019 implementation on the impending Kenyan elections in 2022  The significance of the Act lies in the fact that, in contrast to past elections, the 2022 election is the first to be held under a data protection statute.

Interested in hearing your views.
