I'm not surprised by this turn of events. A little bird told me that the reason behind this change of strategy is simply that Registrars haven't met jointly agreed set targets and hence putting KeNIC in an untenable situation. KeNIC is a critical public resource and it's incumbent on the industry to support its growth. I've always been against growth by price reduction. Especially in the ccTLD Domain Name Space. The largest ccTLDs include .uk, .co and .de and it's never been about pricing. Back to the drawing board KeNIC and Drake? Has the registry abandoned the campaign to make the .ke pricing competitive?
