I stopped becoming 100% patriotic when I realized that our leaders are indeed unpatriotic. None of the people we so feel are our role models, really fit in the level of being admired. One leading politician is believed to own land chuinks that is almost the size of a province, yet there are Kenyans who are still living as squatters, in an independent nation. Right now, I can't purchase a gas cylinder because 'there is an artificial shortage', which, in my view, is propelled by some politicians who are still holding important positions in the government. I really wonder what happened to Public Officers Ethics Act or Chapter 6 of the Constitution. Imagine having to go for charcoal late in to the night because some people have decided to raise money through corrupt means? I also pay exorbitantly as a passenger, yet my income level remains the same. I wonder why can't we have a constitutionalized basic salary for citizens instead of the 'free style' that we have so far adopted. Rain has been pouncing heavily of late - that to a Public Service Vehicle crew is an easy way of making a quick buck - and KPLC has either decided to punish consumers by having numerous blackouts or not willing to lower the tarrifs immediately. This is the sad Kenya which Prophets Amos and Jeremiah, in the good book, were talking against, when they addressed social responsibility and justice towards the common person. Sometimes, I cry for being a Kenyan, regret for being a patriot, yet get reprimanded for my faithfulness. I only shudder, in surprise, when I see prayer meetings being held almost every year but leaders fail to see the suffering of a mwananchi. Why do they put a veil of ignorance at the expense of masses ignorance? I sigh... On 05/12/2011, Barrack Otieno <otieno.barrack@gmail.com> wrote:

Barrack, From consumer associations to civil society to watchdogs we have a problem. Like a patient you must accept that there is a problem if the doctor has to fix it. In Statistics, you can generalize if there is a significant deviation from the norm.
My house leaks as if there is no roof. I have hired and paid seven different contractors over the past five years. Each blame the previous one for one thing or the other. I see through their eyes that what they need is money and not my satisfaction. Others may have been masons now contractors doing what a carpenter should do. In other words they are incompetent.
We have generally deviated from the norm in all aspects. That is why Lizzert should not apologize to Kioko. Once we accept this only then we can find a sustainable solution.
Currently we are pushing the Freedom of Information and the Data Protection Bills. I recently had a chart with a senior civil society member on the same bills and I emphasized the need to push data protection in equal measure as FOI. He told me I was foolish. FOI attracts the attention of Media. Data protection is where we ensure individual privacy but because media is uninterested we do not pay attention! Are we to do things to get media attention?
I was later informed that this is how some NGOs raise money. I am still in shock. There is clearly need to openly discuss our inadequacies. God will never intervene unless we seek for forgiveness. Further God helps those who help themselves and lastly you do not seek for blanket forgiveness from God.
Ndemo.

Listers,
I have refrained from complaining despite the inflation and heavy rainfall that has caused havoc despite being a blessing when looked from another perspective. This afternoon i drive into a basement parking in one of the cities shopping malls, clearly the guys at the entrance seem to be aware that there is no space but alas i am allowed to drive in and drive around, on realising there is no space i choose to drive out and behold, i am asked to pay? pay for what i enquire?, the attendant calmly tells me that it is is the way the system is configured even though she agrees that since i didn't find a slot i am not supposed to pay, this is the second time i am having issues with www.kaps.co.ke and i hope the two Consumer watchdogs are taking note, this is plain dishonesty why should a consumer pay for a service not rendered even hawkers will tell you kuangalia ni bure (seeing is free), worse still where is this form of injustice configured in your systems? I wonder how much Kenyans could be losing through what i have observed today anyway Justice be our shield and defender.
Have a great week!
