Best Solution I’ve found is the Mobicom 3G modem @ 6k.

Orange dongle gets you 4GB at 2k which seems to be more than enough for a couple of people for a month.

Of course u can buy other unlimited bundles etc. as required.

This solution is portable, u can configure the modem to any network, Safaricom, Airtel etc.

Zuku is KSh.1,500 for 256Kbps. Equipment rental is an additional KSh500 and initial setup is KSh3,000.

Other packages and combinations (broadband +cable TV) are on zuku.co.ke

So far we have these recommended:-

Zuku@home

Access@home

Safaricom WiMAx

Any information on speed and costs?

I wish such information was available at a one-stop-shop for consumers with analytical tools to cutomize to ones needs!

Broadband for homes seems elusive!

i have fibre to my home in Runda fr Icon Teledesic. The service availability is less then 20% in the last 8 weeks and speed got very slow. Predominantly less than 100kb/s. Need to look for an alternative solution.

Safaricom WiMax works beautifully for my home link, now considering taking them up in the office to replace the unreliable Orange DeadBox.

Listers,

Just wanted to share an observation that despite the hype that fibre had arrived on the Kenyan coast, it seems to be taking long for Broadband to arrive in residential homes! I see cable installation everywhere, but I have not come across a provider aggressively advertising to Kenyans for broadband to the homes. Am I living in my own world?

Anyone has an idea of a reliable provider with clean bandwidth to homes (not the “bamba” type connections)

Edith
