I think it is upon all stakeholders to ensure KeNIC is successfull, the same case applies to all African ccTLDs, i think we should focus on strong points and highlight the wekanesses, that way we can grow the organisation, i agree with Mwendwa that we should support  KeNICs growth and visibility, i look forwad to the day KeNIC crosses 100000 domains , it will be a sign of confidence in the Kenyan namespace and might have profound impact on e-commerce as well.

Best Regards

Ali,

It's definitely parochial and I would hope Kenic would rise above protecting local registrars at the expense of accessibility to the dot ke domain name system.

I would disagree with you on the issue of allowing anyone without a Kenyan Address to register a domain. Although this may sound abit parochial in thinking but it is the trend worldwide now with ccTLDs. This is the last e-land grab and we must ensure that Kenyan domiciled companies/individuals have the first access to this.

On the issue of opening up the second level domain space i.e. .ke this is something that KeNIC should have done long time ago. In fact this is something that Moses Kemibaro and I championed when we were directors at KeNIC. So I support it fully.

The third thing is the lack of accessible second level domains like nakumatt.ke instead of nakumatt.co.ke

If Kenic would announce that it wants to work on these things but can't because of X, I'd be happy to support you guys (although I'm not sure how exactly).

Cheers.

Great criticism Adam.

I am sure KENIC is not averse to criticism.

Such comments are the ones that make us pull up our socks. I'm sure if we think hard, we can position KENIC as one of the great registries in the Region.

Have a good one.

How can we vote for KENIC when we can't use globally standard registrars like Gandi because KENIC won't allow registrars without a Kenyan address register domain names?

Even the Somalia registrar allows this:

Also, .ke doesn't have DNSSEC as brought up in a previous thread.

I'm sure you're all nice people but organizationally, KENIC is a let down.
