Bwana Ndemo and David, On the contrary, I watch the show weekly from show No 1 (when I'm around) - Unfortunately Citizen is not online to watch out of country! I have absolutely no problem with straight talk - that's my style. I don't fault David and co for the hard hitting questions. Don't get me wrong. My problem David is the mentality of Kenyans that we must have notables in our crowds to be seen to be going somewhere and also that mainstream media only goes for the "big guys".By giving them too much airtime, we have politics dominating our lives and Kenyans become spectators in their own development! We need to alter the game! And media has a big role to play (hope the new crop at the media council are listening). If we create a level playing field for all, we will change how politics is played in this country....it must be issue based, period. Politicians had better change their game going forward and focus on issues. I agree with Bwana Ndemo that you should widen the Cheche platform to link to social media, sms, community radio etc (all converged into one platform) that would allow every Kenyan to interrogate the array of potential "leaders". I must say that Martha is being strategic in showing up where the youth are...in the unexpected places....and to focus on issues because that's what Kenyans want. David, lets build the platfrom and they will come...those who avoid it will soon be isolated...and for survival they would not dodge, but be ready to face the "hard hitting questions". The trio has been bold and asking tough questions. We must nudge them on. American Broadcasting Corporation (ABC) used to have a journalist by the name Sam Donaldson. He was straight. Asking undodgeable questions. He once asked Forner President Bush (Snr), "Did you or your family steal from Savings and Loan?". Many have said that the current crop of Presidential Candidates cannot pass Chapter 6. If we are all saying this including Civil Society, should we not point out the weaknesses and have David and Co ask the bold questions. David, for us to precipitate New Media debate, we need your programme on Youtube where we can link it to all social media outlets. I have just come out of I-Hub to launch e-elimu with Hon. Martha Karua. In her speech, she stuck to issues such as funding ICTs to stimulate innovation and create jobs. The speech has been broadcast in twitter and facebook with such comments as "Good to have prezo candidates coming to see & articulate". In my view Media has started well, we need to encourage the emerging political environment. Soon those who fail to embrace issues will find themselves irrelevant. Ndemo.

Picking on your point about the work Makali is doing on Cheche - I watched it this morning and was surprised by Makali's question to Ole Kiyapi about why his campaigns have such low "mainstream" media coverage and he went on to insinuate that it does not have the "notables" to attract media attention. Kiyapi's response was interesting - made reference to the fact that media should avoid the "herding mentality" - only being attracted by the "big guns", but rather should allow for a level playing field for aspirants to talk issues and to provide a platform for fresh thinkers and not the recycled folks only.
He made my day when he spoke of a possible "female" running mate - none has mentioned so far!...and I've been watching very keenly, highly disappointed that the constitution despite great gains for women...not much being seen in practice. For the female presidential aspirants, I would be equally disappointed if they do not pick the opposite as running mates. We are equal partners in development.
This to me underscored the importance of the debate which was started here on KICTANET of the need to create that neutral platform for issues to be discussed...starting with "the role of technology in improving productivity" as you aptly suggested.
Lets make this neutral platform happen - Grace, Walu, Alice?

Edith, Every Presidential candidate has or is building a blog. This is an area most listers are good at. We can generate debate here then a few can get the message to their blogs. We can start with the role of technology in improving productivity.
Makali is doing an excellent job at the moment. If he has to comment then let it be advisory or how we can link to Cheche for example and get more support.

Since Makali has chosen to remain silent on this issue, I wonder whether alternative media (not mainstream)would also provide an alternative source of balanced debate among Kenyans (common persons)....using a wide range of tools including mobile and local level community radio?
we need to do things different and use chpt 6 of the constitution as a yard stick/foundation of those issue-based debates.

Mutsi, I thought the role of Media is to educate, inform and entertain. Further as a Fourth Estate, Media provides checks and balances. Already this is happening and we need to support David Makali to continue with his balanced view of Kenyan politics in his programmes with Citizen. It is our responsibility to ask more Kenyans to watch.
These programmes are not only informative but an education to the people of Kenya. We simply need to scale up and have competing candidates respond to issues.
