Those are valid points but the facts aren't all there.

1. At&t was never government owned although they did enjoy a monopoly until 1982 (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/History_of_AT%26T) when the federal government broke it up.
2. DHL was not majority controlled by Deutsche Post (the national mail carrier of Germany) until 2002 (http://wap.dhl.com/info/history.html) by which point Deutsche Post had already been an independent corporation for 2 years  (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Deutsche_Post)
3. Orange S.A. (formerly France Telecom) is minority owned by the French government (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Orange_S.A.#Shareholders) but the majority of shares have been public since 2004 - three years before the Telkom investment.

@Adam Is there a western country that has allowed its original carrier to collapse on its own? Infact has any of them allowed a foreign company to come do the honours for it? The notion that governments cannot run successful businesses is refuted by France Telecom Better known as Orange and DHL which are still wholly government owned by their respective companies. Is AT&T collapsing?

The 30 billion shillings that France telecom has effectively been awarded is still ot translating to profits. Next they will want to sell prime real estate because they don't have money.

This is not a business issue but manipulation for control. France telecom wants total control of Telecom Kenya possibly for nefarious reasons. I fail to see how they are not able to turn a profit with all the resources at their disposal.

Since when was a landline company a 'crown jewel'.  It's 2013 and that company should just be left to fall apart on its own.

In the US, only 1 in 4 households will have a traditional landline by the end of the year:

I presume the Kenyan rate is far below that but it seems like the focus should be on fiber and LTE and not worrying about dinosaurs like Kenya Telekom

I feel it's time Orange ate the humble pie. This wars with government
are just distracting the company and they now also look like the
company is fighting with patriotism by extension.

Wouldn't it be more easier to sweet talk GoK for tax and other
incentives rather than arm twist it?

In an interesting twist CCK has issued a warning and threat of punitive
action against Telkom Kenya/France Telecom in what it calls 'unprocedural'
transfer of shares.

In light of this I think CCK is stepping up and doing the right thing. Lets
go one step further:-

The Government should face up to the fact that this was a failed experiment
and put in place mechanisms to return the 'crown jewel' back to the Kenyan
People.
