Retaining identity documents might not directly solve the problem though. So that’s a data protection issue. Most ID pictures were taken when subjects were teenagers. Holding that ID for a week will not help with identification if I submitted a wring one.

Perhaps the businesses should ensure that the name of the person who books the property online should match with the ID.
