Edith,
KICTANET are unable to use technology beyond posting which means we do not have the moral right to request others to do so.
I missed a meeting at KEPSA to discuss the KIF's strategy document because the invite was not sent as a "meeting request" for which my confirmation would have automatically updated the calendar on my computer and my phone with an automated reminder.
So, before we start asking others to embrace technology let us be seen to be doing it first.
Regards
?

Subject: [kictanet] County Governors and the Need to Embrace ICTs
Listers,
?
Today, Governor of Nairobi County, Kidero (or is he H.E?.how do you address them?) posted on his twitter account a note inviting Kenyans to the first public participation meeting to plan for the County.
?
As most of us are at work during the day (or tarmacking) , how are we expected to meaningful participate? I dare suggest that County Governors embrace ICTs and have ?live? online coverage of the event in a way that those unable to attend can still directly contribute via whatever means possible ? radio, sms, social media, digital hangout etc etc?
?
Any thoughts on how this can be done to embrace EVERYONE based on technologies and tools available in people?s hands (not forgetting the digitally excluded).
?
Ideas?
?
Edith

When the President announced Dr Fred Matiang'i as the Cabinet Secretary nominee Information, Communication and Technology, the ICT fraternity got busy on Google. The question was, who is this guy?

I am not for the idea of closing up industries to purely insiders. The
lethargy and infighting and loss of focus can only be detrimental. For
instance the holder of the highest office of the land is the commandeer in
chief of the armed forces. I have not heard or seen him serve for the
military before yet he is expected to lead us into battle. Ofcourse he will
need able and competent bureacrats within the rank and file to advise him.
I expect the same goes for the cabinet secretaries. Being a trained doctor
does not necessarily mean you are best placed to lead a ministry. Let us
not forget that Cabinet secretaries are negotiators and implementors o
broader overarching goals.
lawyers have however managed to clam their profession shut to outsiders.
