+1 Wambui Kamuiru,

Have we failed the nation yet again?.....

Good question!, but sometimes we dont have all the answers. As much as we would like to know the why and how, our wisdom as humans fails us. Its indeed time for reflection, empathy, sympathy and thoughtfulness.

Its very easy to shift blame here and there but at such times we are limited to what our human capacity can afford us, but the God's mercies and grace is enough at all situations, even as we seek answers to questions that probably will never get answered.

God bless Kenya.

Yes we have failed the nation because we are all human beings and nothing even that technology we pride in is perfect. Its only God who sees peoples? hearts, whose wisdom is foolproof.

1 Corinthians 1:20:  <http://biblehub.com/1_corinthians/1.htm> Christ the Wisdom and Power of God
? <http://biblehub.com/1_corinthians/1-19.htm> 19For it is written, "I WILL DESTROY THE WISDOM OF THE WISE, AND THE CLEVERNESS OF THE CLEVER I WILL SET ASIDE."  <http://biblehub.com/1_corinthians/1-20.htm> 20Where is the wise man? Where is the scribe? Where is the debater of this age? Has not God made foolish the wisdom of the world?  <http://biblehub.com/1_corinthians/1-21.htm> 21For since in the wisdom of God the world through its wisdom did not come to know God, God was well-pleased through the foolishness of the message preached to save those who believe.?

Yawe,
That is a loaded question that may elicit varied responses.
1. Is the industry responsible for the gadgets used to scan people as they enter Malls and such like places?
2. What kind of technology is hence required to enhance the efficacy of the metal detectors? I have heard that they only detect such things as car keys...?
3. Would a full body scanner such as those found in airports suffice?
4. Can the industry pass legislation requiring all buildings have these body scanners?
5. In the Westgate case (condolences to all affected), what technology can be used in the event that gunmen walk in shooting???

Food for thought

Hi,

As we console all those who where affected by the happenings at the Westgate Mall over the weekend do we remain blameless as an industry?

We cannot beat ourselves too much. This disasters happen world over.
Just last week, a gunman opened fire at the Washington Navy yard
killing 12people. We see attacks in Israel, Nigeria, and India.

What might have failed us is intelligence agencies. Since Kenya has
tight gun and small weapons control than the developed world, it
should be hard to transport heavy weapons all the way to Westlands.
But we have seen previously crooks bribe their way through road blocks
in the Garissa Nairobi highway which is the major conduit for weapons.
>From the organisation of the Westgate gang, you can imagine the kind
of funding they had to compromise our security systems.

The solution is not full metal detectors (which by the way cannot stop
any gunman), but covert operations to wipe out radical groups.

Where Children are concerned especially, the?mother instinct kicks in, and my heart is way too heavy...?This is day 3 have the children?been fed considering those merciless killers?? I dont know, and it is destressing, I cant get the image of that father with a two year old and wife?inside the mall out of my?mind...

Eric,
I am sorry for what has happened to our Ghanaian brothers.? News comes in
in bits and every bit of it angers and leads to bitterness.? I pray that
God will help us forgive these senseless killers.

I just came across a quote from Anne Frank which is descriptive and so
wise for the moment.? She writes:? 'It really is a wonder that I have not
dropped all my ideals, because they seem so absurd and impossible to carry
out.? Yet I keep them because in spite of everything I still believe that
people are really good at heart? I simply can't build up my hopes on a
foundation consisting of confusion, misery, and death. I see the world
gradually being turned into a wilderness, I hear the ever approaching
thunder, which will destroy us too, I can feel the sufferings of millions
and yet, if I look up to the heavens, I think that it will all come right,
that this cruelty too will end, and that peace and tranquility will return
agaiin.'

She was only 16 when she died, but she had such a beautiful commitment to
hope.

This morning a friend wrote to me and she said.? There has been such a
negativity among good people in discussions that all of this negative
energy has to have an effect on people who are really confused and opt for
violence.? I was heartened to hear the latest comments of the Pope.? Every
bit helps.

God bless us all.
