Dear KICTANet,
Re: Launch of the Dot Africa Government Reserved Names List (RNL) Policy
The Dot Africa project has now reached a stage where African Governments are being offered an opportunity to reserve domain names that are of National significance before the dot Africa Top Level Domain is opened to general domain name registrations. Respective Governments will be required to redeem the reserved names within the timelines set in the RNL policy using the prescribed systems and tools that have been developed to facilitate efficient submission and redemption of reserved names.
The African Union (AU) through the Uniform SA (ZA Central Registry) which is the appointed registry for dot Africa has developed several policy documents, among them the Reserve Name List (RNL) policy that will be used to govern the process of reserving government names. The RNL policy, guidelines and portal are available at the following links (URLs):
Reserve Name List Policy: www.africainonespace.org/rnlpolicy
Reserve Name List Guidelines: http://africainonespace.org/rnlguide
Reserve Name List Portal: http://africainonespace.org/rnl
The RNL policy provides for reservation of the following categories:
Geographic names - Maximum of 100 names
Religious Cultural and Linguistic - Maximum of 100 names
Economic and public Interest Names - Maximum of 100 names
Offensive Names - Maximum 25 names
Kenya’s representative to the Government Advisory Committee (GAC) of ICANN (CCK), Kenya’s Advisor to the Government Advisory Committee (GAC) of ICANN (Ministry of ICT) and KENIC have compiled the following list of government names for the Republic of Kenya and is inviting stakeholders for review and input before the list is submitted to the AU for implementation by end of January 2014.
Comments should be sent by 17th January 2014.
