Information and Knowledge Systems
CIVICUS is an international network of civil society organizations dedicated to promoting civic activism and civil society around the world. Over the past five years, CIVICUS has significantly expanded its programmatic work on strengthening civil society. Key to CIVICUS' work is the generation and dissemination of knowledge on civil society issues, using the expanding opportunities of information communication technology and knowledge tools. A recent example is CIVICUS' new role as the secretariat of the Participation Toolkit website (www.toolkitparticipation.com).
CIVICUS is recruiting a Project Manager to further develop, maintain, expand and promote its information and knowledge systems and services. The incumbent will take the lead in designing an integrated strategy for the effective use of knowledge management tools internally as well as externally, with a particular focus on CIVICUS' website. In addition, the Project Manager will oversee the secretariat of the Participation Toolkit website. S/he will also promote organisational learning around the use of knowledge tools and assist CIVICUS' staff with utilizing appropriate information technology and related tools for their work. The position therefore constitutes a key component of CIVICUS' programmatic work and encompasses tasks, which are technical, content-related as well as managerial.
Key requirements:
* At least 5 years track record in knowledge management in an NGO environment; * Excellent understanding of ICT and knowledge tools suitable for a global NGO; * High-level skills in database and web design; * Proven, substantial knowledge of civil society issues globally; * Outstanding written and oral communication skills in English required; advanced skills in at least one other UN language preferred; * Solid experience in resource mobilization and project management; * Strong ability to develop plans and strategies and to work toward their realization and improvement under demanding performance schedules; and * A university degree in an appropriate discipline; advanced degree preferred.
Preferred start date is 1 July 2006. Women are especially encouraged to apply.
