Another view on the ICANN meeting from Namibia. Namibia had also placed a bid for the same meeting that Kenya won. See below. best alice
Dear Doug,
thank you (or rather not) for the security information posted at
http://nbo.icann.org/meetings/security-information-11feb10-en.htm http://nbo.icann.org/meetings/security-information-12feb10-en.htm
and emailed.
Now I have my own opinion about the choice of Nairobi as the venue of the African ICANN meeting, but this is very much influenced by the fact that we submitted a bid to have this very meeting in Windhoek.
But, I am really getting upset about the lack of professionalism with which this is (mis)handled. But I feel it my duty to inject some sense of reality into the topic and support my African brothers, and not just because out of solidarity.
Uncorroborated, untested, unevaluated and uninterpreted rumors like the one giving raise to this thread should not be published until they have been corroborated, tested, evaluated and interpreted unless there is a credible threat requiring urgent changes in plans (which is clearly not the case here).
This can be done in almost all cases within 24 hours as has been done in this case.
I have taken the trouble to look up the travel pages for Kenya of the Department of State, the French and German Foreign Ministries and the Foreign Office. Neither one has listed any recent changes in their travel advisories.
Not even the State Department has listed this particular issue on their web site, which tells me something how credible they think it is.
In other words since the decision to hold the meeting there was taken nothing really has changed. Which has been the point I have made on
the
conference call already.
I strongly urge to continue concentrating on your laudable efforts to make a success out of the situation we are finding ourselves in.
