As a western Kenya person 😄 I think the growth in number of subscribers outstripped supply that could be made with the six digit permutation initially on 0722 xxx xxx, say for Safaricom which is 1 M. With the allowance of more numbers 072x xxx xxx (10M) and later 07(1/2/..)x xxx xxx, there should be enough for all among the telcos. We need a legal framework to handle legacy numbers transfers and a strategy on how to tackle international services e.g Trucaller and Whatsapp. Maybe a phone number as permanent as your ID number once issued, with exceptions. My two cents. On Thu, Feb 1, 2024, 12:28 PM Ali Hussein via KICTANet < kictanet@lists.kictanet.or.ke> wrote:
Beyond the Western Kenya People conversation, 😅 let's address the serious issues here.
How do we address this issue of Telcos assigning your number to someone else?

A story published in the Nation today shows the challenge that arises when telcos resell mobile numbers to third parties without notice to current owners.
