@Barrack

Took a glance at the Transport Integrated Management System (TIMS) tender published by ICTA the other day and noticed that the ESB middleware was specifically outlined as IBM middleware & service (pg 148). It is indeed not my intention to divert from the very important issue of Net neutrality, but I think there's also an issue of technology neutrality that needs to be addressed.

Maybe at the general public level but I doubt that's the case at the Policy, Regulatory level. We have some of the smartest cookies this part of the world leading our policy and regulatory functions.

I believe ambivalence is the culprit.

Hi Ali,

My thinking is there might be limited understanding on the issue.

I think it's time we asked the government and the sector to openly state its
stand on this vital issue. Since WCIT12 I have consistently asked for us to
clarify this issue. We can't just sit back and make assumptions while we
know some of the practices that are already happening within the sector are
detrimental to Net Neutrality.

It's time we called out for a formal recognition of this issue. We know that
most if not all policy leaders in the country read these posts. And some
have even acknowledged how Kictanet shapes their thinking in policy
formulation. Be that as it may I wish that someone will come out and take
leadership on this issue.

Kenya's thought leadership in African ICT and the world is at risk.

Apologies for cross posting.

Interesting development on Net Neutrality issues. Please see email thread
below and kindly visit the site for more on Net Neutrality. There is even
a Swahili version which is an achievement thanks to Kictanet.

Net Neutrality may not be a 'sexy' subject for some but I think it's
important for all of us to understand it and pay attention to its
development and preservation. Think about it this way:-

If Net Neutrality is threatened one day you may wake up and realize that
the freedoms you took for granted - like reading this rambling email from
me :) - is threatened because some Telco somewhere decided it doesn't like
the contents...or Kictanet didnt pay 'gatekeeping' fees.

Far fetched? Do nothing and roll the dice..

Subject: [global-nn] ThisIsNetNeutrality Relaunch and Press Release
Reply-To: <deji@accessnow.org>

Hi to All,

I hope this message finds you well. I wanted to introduce myself--I’m the
new
Senior Advocacy Manager at Access and I look forward to working with you
on
the Global Net Neutrality Coalition.

You have all seen the original version of the great
ThisisNetNeutrality.org
site. The redesign is finished and will more clearly spotlight members of
the
coalition and invite new members to join. It’s a responsive site that
should
work well on computers and mobile devices. You can visit it here:
https://thisisnetneutrality.org/beta

We would like to issue a press release on Tuesday next week about this
exciting news. I see a couple of major points that are worth celebrating:
the
global diversity of the coalition and the fact that civil society groups
have
agreed on a universal definition of net neutrality. We can also explain
that
thisisnetneutrality.org will soon be the leading resource on net
neutrality
laws and policies around the globe.

It would be great to have as many statements as possible for the press
release. If you want to be included, please send me a short 2-3 line
statement
along by Monday, November 24.

Here are some sample points for quotes:

-- Thisisnetneutrality.org highlights the importance of net neutrality
to
users around the world.
-- This issue is not confined to one country or region, and affects
people in
the developed and developing world alike.
-- Net neutrality is essential in countries where internet infrastructure
is
still being built.
-- Now we have a resource for the world to discover and for policy makers
to
know that net neutrality matters so that they can make informed
decisions
about the future of the internet.

Let’s make sure our coalition gets the attention it deserves in every
region
and country where it is represented. So please reach out to individual
journalists and publications where you have contacts if you can.

I want to do whatever I can to help move this important effort forward,
so
kindly let me know if you have any questions. And once again--it’s a
pleasure
to meet.

Best,
--
