Yes we are marketing Kenya as a world class ITES location. I do not believe that in our marketing pitch, the "pool" is exclusive to university degree holders. High school/ mid -level college level staff (which is where the bulk is in Kenya) do and can work in the ITES industry, as long as they have the right attitudes and basic skills (COEs will be doing this). I have had better success with this group than university graduates! The establishment of the COEs for instance, is to turn this around and impart the KSAs that can be marketable, and, this is based on the broader premise that the initiative will take away the extra cost of training to organization such as mine. Call centers (in the pure sense) and depending on the process complexity should never be primarily marketed as of having x-number of graduates but rather on a wider range of metrics such as FCR, adherence, attrition, technology, top management experience, vertical/horizontal market expertise, etc. Leadership and entrepreneurial skills are acquired through experience (Never credit hours), and in the case of turning around a non-performing entity such as Posta, this can never be restricted to just having "papers". Just my thoughts drawn from observation and experience. We are engaded in marketing Kenya as a world class ITES location and one of the flags that we raise is "a large talent pool" where is this talent pool coming from? graduates from other universities outside Kenya or here? Would you pull this to an investor And going by the recent quality of our graduates (not to belittle our universities any manner), I would go for experience and strategy before anything else meaning even the graduates you employ at your company should not be there and if there is, your company should not be marketed as a call center. Leadership requires intiution first, peppered by academics then salted by "being adequately socialised" Regards, Sam _____ From: Edwin Onchari <eonchari@lynxbits.com> To: saguyo@yahoo.com Cc: KICTAnet ICT Policy Discussions <kictanet@lists.kictanet.or.ke> Sent: Tue, November 9, 2010 9:23:25 AM Subject: Re: [kictanet] Yawe for Post Master General And going by the recent quality of our graduates (not to belittle our universities any manner), I would go for experience and strategy before anything else Edwin From: kictanet-bounces+eonchari=lynxbits.com@lists.kictanet.or.ke [mailto:kictanet-bounces+eonchari=lynxbits.com@lists.kictanet.or.ke] On Behalf Of Rad! Sir Richard Branson - O'Level I do not want to belittle paper qualifications but they work when you are looking for a fellow to maintain the status quo which is something we definitely do not want to do with PCK. No college in the world can prepare you on how to turn around an organisation in the state that PCK is in right now. If you are looking for relevant experience then you will need to get an expatriate as the only national postal corporation in Kenya is PCK. What is Major Ali's qualification that makes him an ideal candidate as the PMG? If you where sleeping & was then awaken by a hissing sound on turning on the light you see a snake what would you do? 1. Call KWS to send a team of experts to take capture the snake 2. If i was the appointing authority, i would demand to know what your qualifications are and what measures you would use to turn around the supposed limping organisation. I would ask you your qualifications because it would inform me whether you have the fundamental background and skills required to deliver the service. I would look at both academic and professional experience to take the organisation forward. This also forms a criteria for selection acceptable to all, then we will not have "ya wenyewe" etc. Regards, Sam _______________________________________________ kictanet mailing list kictanet@lists.kictanet.or.ke http://lists.kictanet.or.ke/mailman/listinfo/kictanet This message was sent to: conradakunga@gmail.com Unsubscribe or change your options at http://lists.kictanet.or.ke/mailman/options/kictanet/conradakunga%40gmail.co m No virus found in this incoming message.
