Africa Top Level Domains Organization (AfTLD) in collaboration with the
Zambia Information and Communications Technology Authority (ZICTA), hosted
the 6th annual ccTLD event in Livingstone (Zambia) in July 2012 the theme
being Enhancing Internet Management in Africa.
While presiding over the opening ceremony the Minister of Transport, Works
Supply and communications urged delegates to ensure that the Internet is
readily accessible and manageable to the ordinary person in an African
village, in addition he emphasised on the need to curb the digital divide
between urban and rural areas and the high cost of Internet services in
African countries.
The meeting focused on enhancing the visibility of African ccTLDs through
branding and marketing, examining the likely impact of new gTLDs on
African ccTLDS as well enhancing the robustness and efficiency of African
registries by improving technical infrastructure.
The meeting was in line with AfTLD’s strategic objective of building
capacity of African ccTLDs with an aim of improving and enhancing Africa’s
internet infrastructure.
During the meeting Mr. Vika Mpisane (.ZA) stepped down as AfTLD Chairman,
Mrs. Mary Uduma (.NG ) and Mr. Eric Akumiah (.GH) were elected as members
of the Executive Committee. The following is the new executive committee:

The Africa Top Level Domains Organization was established in 2002 to act
as a focal point forAfrican Country Code Top Level Domain (ccTLD) managers
in coordinating, formulating, developing and presenting a unified approach
to issues related to the Domain Name System.
The African Top Level Domains Organization also presents a forum for
sharing ideas between the regions Internet community with an aim of
promoting the utilization of national country’s TopLevel Domains.
