Ok...Let me stop you right there! 😅 Let's not focus on one individual just because he is using more of his brainpower, unlike the rest of us! 😅 Let's stick to the issues at hand. Let me ask or share a couple of questions/thoughts:-

1. First things first. In a global digital world is a unique #digitalidentity paramount?

2. Are Privacy First principles being adhered to?

3. The company says it has made available 1.5k Orbs spread across over 35 cities in 20-plus countries across five continents to ramp up the signing-up capacity globally. According to the company, more than 2 million people have signed up for the identity during the two years beta phase.

4. According to its LinkedIn profile, the company says it is building the world's largest identity and financial network to serve as a public utility. Question - should a private company be allowed to build such a powerful conglomeration of different human needs? financial services, personal identity data etc? and if so what are the failsafe solutions in place if something were to go wrong?

5. Last but not least, who has access to this humongous and important data being collected? and who owns it?

Regards

Ali Hussein

Isn't it too much from one person within such a short time? While we are still wowed at the capabilities of OpenAI projects, he's at it again with another groundbreaking "innovation" that will give the world a global cryptocurrency "backed by the world population".

Then again, we do not really know what or how much they are learning or know from these generative AIs and the enormous data they gathered to train them. They must be way ahead of time and that is why we should scrutinize how they'll handle such sensitive data before we allow our citizens to jump in.

That said, it is still a grey area and there is still a great deal of confusion and uncertainty among key government leaders as witnessed in this statement by the Chair ICT Committee at the Senate, Hon. Allan Chesang

You make a point Eshuchi. Yesterday, I was in a meeting with some organisations working at the grassroots and this gentleman from Marsabit asked my opinion on this issue. I did not realise the discussion already iko "kwa ground" and there are concerns on data protection. I threw back the question and asked him what his response would be. He pointed out that wananchi need to know what that data will be used for before they can give it to a foreign organisation.

I have also been asked why there has not been any pushback from the stakeholders "and wondering who protects Kenyans from digital theft". My response is that we saw this matter raised here last year (by Kivuva) but really there was no response. He followed the matter again recently (the reason why we have this debate here) and also shared an advisory from the ODPC.

Please see this tweet from the CAS on the matter. https://twitter.com/OleItumbi/status/1686343173805596673?s=20

It is clear that there needs to be a discussion on this matter to set the record straight. In the meantime, Worldcoin already is holding a lot of data from wananchi. What next?

On the flip side, the laid back attitude from professionals speaks volumes.

Good afternoon Lydia

For many who are enrolling, I believe privacy and data protection are potentially alien to them. And while I believe they are core, many people plainly don't care. They are the masses. Mark Kaigwa did a thread for perspective - https://twitter.com/MKaigwa/status/1684883744602099712?t=roAfKHV-MhiY6KsfeUJGCw&s=08

But I would like to believe that they registered with ODPC.

Kind Regards
