The chief executive officer of NCST, Prof Shaukat Abdulrazak said the funds would be disbursed to individuals and learning institutions, which are interested in science research programmes. Speaking at Pwani University during a workshop on sensitization in Science, Technology and Innovation, Prof Abdulrazak said scientific research was important for socio-economic development. He said the Government must support scientific research to achieve Vision 2030 targets. Prof Abdulrazak noted that Kenya was good in development of policies but poor in implementation. He challenged scientists to take the leading role to transform Kenya and achieve high standards of technology. Prof Abdulrazak said the Government was yet to fully tap the 250 nautical miles from the Indian Ocean for economic benefits. “The 250 nautical miles along the Coast of the Indian Ocean has a high potential, which if well utilized through marine research programmes, could boost the economy of the country,” said Prof Abdulrazak.
