Of course if you go to the relevant KAA website, you might be tempted to assume that too is connected to the runway lights. As of now, 2.54PM it is giving a server error. http://www.kenyaairports.co.ke/

I don't think it's a matter of privatization. It's more of a matter of competence and prudent use of resources. it is absolutely absurd that a strategic asset like an international airport does not have backups and backups of those backups. Runway lights failing is simply unacceptable in this day and age.

I was myself in coast when this fiasco occurred trying to get back from Nairobi. I was told by some passengers on KQ that the plane flew all the way to Nairobi and turned around at the airport to return to Mombasa.

Instead of buying Pasats why isn't something like ensuring world class standards for JKIA & Moi prioritized?

Remember that JKIA is trying to secure status that will allow direct flights to and from the US. With such occurences? I think not.

Who will take responsibility of this occurrence?

We need to privatize JKIA, KAA has proven beyond reasonable doubt that they are unable to manage the airports.  It is becoming a bad joke when the airport landing lights have failed 3 times in the past 3 weeks.

It is interesting how KAA casually say that that there will be no night flats in & out of JKIA do they understand that that is 2/3 of the airports flight traffic.
