Wainaina ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Former pipeline boss named Rwandas ICT boss -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- By Alari Alare The Rwandan government has appointed former Kenya Pipeline Company Limited Managing Director Shem Ochuodho to head the countrys information and communication authority. Ochuodho is the new chief executive officer of the Rwanda Information Technology Authority (RITA) for a period of two years. Ochuodho, a former chairman of the Computer Society of Kenya, will now head the national body that is designed to develop Rwandas information and communications facilities. He holds a Philosophers Degree (PhD) in Engineering (software) from the University of York, England and a Masters in Electronic Engineering from the University of Nairobi. RITA runs as an independent body with linkages to IT divisions in government ministries as well as other ICT-related organisations in public and private sectors. The authority seeks to modernise Rwandas economy using information and communication technology as an engine for accelerated growth. It has the responsibility of developing national ICT standards and guidelines.
