Firstly, I'll state I'm an interested party, being part of Angani. We have reached a high level of maturity when it comes to both datacenter infrastructure and operations and hosting/cloud infrastructure1) Datacenter infrastructure and operations - Angani currently has two sites. One is with East Africa Datacenter, which is the first Tier 3 datacenter in this region. We've never had any power outage/network outage since moving into this facility.2) Cloud Infrastructure - the expertise for this exists, in Kenya. We, as a team have experience in building and maintaining critical systems. Given that we have two availability zones, it's possible to have your application replicated between two sites. We've come a long way. Angani has been in operation effectively for the last 11 months and in that time we've moved from having to convince customers to trust our platform to managing over 12,000 email accounts. We are now one of the larger hosting providers in Kenya http://myip.ms/view/countries/KEN/Internet_Usage_Statistics_Kenya.html. This is within 11 months (we came out of beta late December 2013). Why am I giving these stats? Times have changed, the local private sector sees this and has chosen to trust us with their information. On Thu, Nov 13, 2014 at 2:57 PM, Ngigi Waithaka via kictanet <kictanet@lists.kictanet.or.ke> wrote:@Dorcas,Rgds
There are very few local websites that would need scalability past Duo CPU / Multi-core setups with good memory so i guess scalability is easily sorted or is a non-issue.
In terms of redundancy, two local sites would pull the trick very well IMO. I know it's 'eCitizen' but it would be nice if this worked for legal residents as well. Hi All,
Wanted to pass a thumbs up to the ICT Authority Team, i used the eCitizen
portal to apply for a duplicate DL recently.
All worked out very well.
Thumbs up to the Pesapal team, that payment went very well!
NTSA customer service was great.
Times tower 3rd Floor team was bit slow, i forgive them as i got our old
paper booklet DL version for the replacement.
I did not leave my desk to have these going which was even greater! My
messenger collected the DL painlessly too.
Kudos to all behind the work. I guess Dr. Matiang'i, Victor, Dr. Getao,
Harry, Mugambi and entire team.

@Muthoni, @Ali,
Ave quickly browsed throug the system http://www.ecitizen.go.ke/
Must agree it looks pretty. Though the registration process got me stuck at the "Upload your recent Picture". How on earth was this system supposed to know my recent picture? Anyway, I did not have any picture and had to cheat the system to get through. Just put a picture of my dream car :-)
Victor/Evans, just lose that requirement of "Upload your Recent" picture. Otherwise this does look like a sign of good things to come and you should make more noise about it.

Its great to see government being praised. We are going places Kenya.
Next step, and I hope authorities are listening. Lets have a single
document. Think of a smart card with chip and NFC. Store all data from
identification, PIN, Driving Licence, Insurance, .... The booklet DL is so
primordial.
