It is so sad that someone was shot. I consider myself lucky that I was not injured in any way during my ordeal with the thugs. I was hoping that our colleagues in the media could have played a role by warning people to STOP using this road.

The police have failed.

Though we are an ICT policy discussion group, it may still be okay to use our connection with media (representatives amongst us), to warn people against using these by-passes. In the end, we might have given an influence that saves a life; and that will be great!

That is a good Idea. I will try to see if we can run a media campaign warning motorists about the lurking danger on the bypass. I will try talking with Maina Kageni of Classic 105 and Caroline Mutuku of Kiss FM and I do my part in the Star newspaper.

Yeah, such a sign would be great, but given the fact that these days the Police Commissioner can sue people for giving out any information that tends to prove that the police are not doing their work as expected, I doubt this would be a wise step for anyone. However, maybe Chelimo, given his standing, has access to the Queen of the Airwaves, whom he can prod into running some serious campaign.

Erect a sign on the entrance to the road saying “4 people robbed and shot dead on this road in the past 3 months.” That should do it.

Subject: Re: [kictanet] WARNING: Dangerous Bypass

Washington,

It is a very sad affair this killing. I actually carried a story in the Star newspaper some few days back of a Kictanet member who was ambushed and all his valuables stolen by a gang on this by pass. This was to alert the public about the danger of using this route. As you said, it is better to stick to the jam and I think police should be patrolling this route regularly. A poblic campaign to discourage people from using this route should be done lest more lives are lost. How do we go about it?

Strange that the police arrived "soon after", isn't that similar to the previous incidents where the Police are just around the area

There was a story about robberies along the Southern Bypass recently. Some alleged that it was a copy/paste story.

Today I have seen the attached story in the press.

It would be nice for people to contend with jams than take this bypass in its current state.
