Hi, The death of analytical journalism died when we made journalism a first degree instead of a post graduate diploma/degree as those with only a degree in journalism have no leg to stand on when writing "stories". Last week I read an article about how the installation of speed cameras will assist in reducing road carnage which was an extract from a speech given by some politician. If the journalist was an IT graduate with a post graduate diploma in journalism they would have been able to identify the political statements as unfounded and be able to give an alternative suggestion or analytical analysis to how to achieve the said objective. If he asked me I would have told him that installing RFID labels on the buses and distributed readers along the highways would be a more practical solution. We have been unable to install CCTV cameras to manage traffic on the 3 kilometre stretch from Nyayo Stadium round about to Museum Hill what is the likelihoods that we shall be able to cover the highway from Mombasa to Kisumu? I digress, the issue was that the journalists and the media owners are constantly failing us by copy pasting political statements instead of providing analysis and that was the genesis of my pejorative (contempt or distaste) and disparaging (belittling) statement, I apologise if I have pinched a raw nerve.
