They do have backup PoPs but there has been reluctance by some carriers to connect to them. Perhaps they haven't seen the need... until now...

I don't know as I haven't been directly involved with KIXP for a number of years now. But for such a major carrier to come crying to me there must be some issues :)

as well as the Mombasa IX, which is a separate peering mesh. Is that
