Morning, We are indeed aware that the domain www.co.ke is registered as a 3rd level domain since 2011 and is just like kictanet.or.ke or kenic.or.ke. On to the concern of it being owned by someone else, the name(www) was not restricted then and as a result was registered. The domain (www.co.ke)has been faithfully renewed and has not been in breach of any of the KeNIC policies/ requirements. With respect to selling A and MX records of co.ke we appreciate your thoughts and the idea. Kind regards, KeNIC Tech. However, what beats be is the absence of a legal channel/process to reclaim the name. Why not just decline to accept payment during renewal and state that the registration was an oversight? After all it's just used for squatting. On 29 December 2017 at 00:59, Collins Areba via kictanet < kictanet@lists.kictanet.or.ke > wrote: aha, so kenic actually sold www to someone? Goodness! This does not make sense.
@Wash. My proposal is not for the domain to be sold, but rather, the A records for the #2 . co.ke domain (and their attendant mx records), the domain could still be maintained by Kenic, and all they do is point to the coke servers.

When the original techies in the .ke namespace were generating the RNL like nic.co.ke , they forgot to also reserve www and it was snapped by a domainer. Go ahead and visit http://www.co.ke , and see it resolve.

KeNIC is ours. I’m just trying to think out of the box so that some of these resources that could be in the community’s control can be used to further our ICT Agenda beyond government. We need to think out of the box and monetize resources available.

That can be part of the agreement. This domain is too valuable to just ‘park’ it. I see no reason why this can’t done.

I am with @Phares on this. I don't think co.ke can be sold. If I bought it, I could then mess up all the . co.ke domains by just creating them as a subdomain of my co.ke domain - unless it is clearly stated that whoever buys co.ke is PROHIBITED from creating any subdomains on this domain.

Not really. (. co.ke ) is what is currently in use. KeNIC introduced a second level system which is (.ke) and the rules are clear. You can own any domain with one or more letters before the (.ke).
So where I stand (or sit) :-) the co.ke domain is fair game.. I think KeNIC just needs to explain to the community why they are hoarding
billion dollar domain. :-)
