Well done Michael, you have certainly done your bit in changing the local ICT landscape, i confirmed this while having a chat with my grandfather as he explained how the mobile phone has revolutionised communication in the village , he described how old women tie their phones to Lesos and are able to correspond even while doing their chores deep in the interior where communication in a challenge. What i will remember Michael for is that he was a meticulous CEO (paid attention to details) and his beleif and continous assertion that this country is on the verge of greatness only if we change our peculiar habits i hope you will be around to see us achieve vision 2030 by the year 2020. Hongera Michael we wish you well in your future endeavours. Best Regards

Thanks MM
MJ was the first CEO to openly speak of the Kenyas Peculiar behavior As we have continued to throw hard hitting questions to Safaricom, MJ has politely responded and indeed acted on any issue raised by wateja bila ubaguzi. I salute his leadership style!

Hi Listers
As you are aware , Michael Joseph (MJ) leaves the office of CEO on 31st of this month after a 10 year career at Safaricom. As is tradition, we at KICTAnet bid our members welcome/ farewell and certainly this
Michael, You and your team at Safaricom have created a benchmark for the industry and changed many lives in Kenya. The good dose of close scrutiny that your corporation has attracted is a testimony of the good work that you have done there. It is my hope that the innovation continues even after your departure and all the best in your next undertaking Edwin Being on par in terms of price and quality only gets you into the game.Service wins the game. From the Lewa marathon, supporting the Safari Sevens, to the classical fusion and many projects under the Safaricom foundation you have done great! You remind me of a story once told of an investor who sent two scouts to a remote village. His core business was shoe manufacturing. The first scout came back and told the boss, sorry we have no market here! nobody wears shoes, better try another village. A few days later the second scout called the boss and said, boss you will not believe it, we have a huge market here everyone is barefoot! May you be even more successful in your next venture! is the tool of choice supplemented by a bash when feasible . this is what we want to do starting now from 10 hrs today the 10th day of the 10th month of the 10 year of the new century we wish to take just 10 days to reflect on the MJs 10 year safari ---- . As usual we expect fair and candid thoughts from our hearts and mind and the daily prompting questions will provide a structure for our discussion
we shall present your candid views in style to MJ at a suitable time shortly after the closure of the list discussion----
To kick-start discussion , first lets look back over your shoulder - just recall when he landed in Nairobi in June 2000 and went to work on/at Safaricom. At 17k customers , with barely 9 base stations , the operator was the smallest and in the eyes of the potential consumer, an appendage of the towering TKL of the day . that was then , its no more
· What still lingers in your mind of MJ early days at Safaricom, his interaction with you , the customers , the media, the regulator , competition etc?
· What factors shaped MJs and Safaricoms destiny did he create the opportunities or was he just smart enough to take advantage of the situation?
· In juggling between competing technologies, customer expectation, staff demands, government, market competition, what strikes you as MJs character that produces the results we see
· What do you think he could have done differently?
· What actions did MJ take then that are still inexplicable and you would want MJ to explain now?
cheers
