This seems like an excellent way to tap into local resources for technology manufacture and to have development policies based around it. Rather than focus completely on exports of the raw material etc, producing a finished product would increase revenue. According to articles on the net, Coltan, short for Columbite-tantalite is a metallic ore comprising Niobium and Tantalum. When refined, coltan becomes a heat resistant powder, metallic tantalum which has unique properties for storing electrical charge. It is therefore a vital component in the capacitors that control current flow in cell phone circuit boards. Just my thoughts..... Aki.
