One question (another on Monday:)

Is this law tight enough to discourage a scenario in which we are subject to foreign laws (and parties) to access, say IEBC data?

Data sovereignty (Canadian comments)

http://publications.gc.ca/collections/collection_2018/sct-tbs/BT22-213-2018-eng.pdf

Regardless of where the cloud resources are physically located, when data is stored in a cloud environment, the stored data may be subject to the laws of other countries. As previously mentioned, CSPs (Cloud Service Providers) are hyper-scale providers that have global deployment. A CSP with foreign operations could be required to comply with a warrant, court order or subpoena request from a foreign law enforcement agency seeking to obtain GC data. This means that Canada cannot ensure full sovereignty over its data when it stores data in the cloud. Lack of full data sovereignty has the potential to damage the GC and third parties. Sensitive GC data could be subject to foreign laws and be disclosed to another government. Under some foreign laws, disclosure of GC data could take place without notice to the GC.

Dear listers,

I hope that this email finds you well. Please see attached the published Data Protection Bill before the National Assembly. Please note also that the National Assembly is on recess starting this coming week for the next 2 weeks.

Kind regards,
Magdalene.

Dear GB, Listers

The clerk to the ICT committee has informed me that she is yet to receive the copy. She has however promised  the hard copy should be available by Monday. There is no soft copy yet. Hopefully we will have it on Monday so that we can input.

Best regards

Listers,
It appears that the ICT Ministry Data Protection Bill was read for the first time in the National Assembly. See this story.

I cannot find the published version of the Bill online but came across this from the interwebs. If anyone comes across one that is authoritatively published, please share.

Also please be on the lookout for the public participation from the National Assembly ICT committee. Otherwise, let us prepare to give input.

Regards,
