Agreed. Serious content that should quickly be translated and uploaded to the opengovernment portal. Now for a serious question (not sure to who, but may Paul Kukubo could take it on as the CEO of ICT Board). I know for budgetory reasons that the fiber cannot be run through each and every town/county but any special reason why Bungoma Town was left out? 2010 Census Statistics showed that Bungoma county is the most populated after Nairobi and Kakamega in that order. That alone should be a good enough reason to extend this fiber there. Another one ofcourse is that Bungoma happens to be my Shags and I may want to access fiber from there - on the few ocassions that I show up there ;-). walu. --- On Fri, 7/29/11, Solomon Mbũrũ Kamau <solo.mburu@gmail.com> wrote: From: Solomon Mbũrũ Kamau <solo.mburu@gmail.com> Subject: Re: [kictanet] [KICTAnet] Update on National Optical Fiber Backbone Infrastructure (NOFBI) To: jwalu@yahoo.com Cc: "KICTAnet ICT Policy Discussions" <kictanet@lists.kictanet.or.ke> Date: Friday, July 29, 2011, 3:59 PM Thanks Fiona for this. Since last week PS Dr. Ndemo and his team at the MOIC have been engaging operators in discussions to find the best way to maximize value on the government built NOFBI infrastructure. In summary the outcome of the meetings has been that; 1. NOFBI is accessible to all interested licensed operators who shall provide the last mile solutions to their customers. 2. A management committee comprising of various operators and government has been put in place to finalize on suitable pricing and ensure as many people as possible have access to the backbone infrastructure and ensure that it is eventually self-sustainable. 3. The management committee shall share quarterly reports on the progress It is the hope of all those involved that the use of this shared platform will be a contributing factor to the reduced costs of internet access.
