KICTANet together with the Collaboration on International ICT Policy for East and Southern Africa (CIPESA) and Internews are hosting a virtual session on Afro-feminist perspectives on data governance on November 27, 2023, from 2:00 pm to 3:30 pm via Zoom. This session will explore the critical role of Afro-feminist thought in shaping data governance practices that address the unique challenges faced by women and marginalized genders in Africa.
The objective of the session is to help participants understand the gender biases that exist in data governance practices and the repercussions of data protection regimes that perpetuate misogyny and bias against women and gender minorities and explore the concept of gender-responsive data protection and privacy.
This session will contribute to regional discussions on online safety and data protection, drawing lessons learned from implementing data protection frameworks in Africa, and advocate for policy alternatives and amendments, improvements to fill gaps identified during policy implementation, and data governance initiatives.
We invite you to participate in the Afro-Feminist Perspectives on Data Governance Discussion from 02:00 pm to 03:30 pm via Zoom.
