Press release, February 21, 2007
**************************************************
Berlin, Germany / Nairobi, Kenya - The first African Technical Vocational
Education and Training (TVET) Summit "Access and Inclusion for TVET in
Africa through new ICT-based solutions" will take place in conjunction with
this year's eLearning Africa, the annual pan-African conference on ICT for
Development, Education and Training. The Summit will be held on 28 May 2007
in Nairobi.
The African TVET Summit will bring together TVET experts, policy
makers and
practitioners to share experiences, discuss strategies, and implement
mechanisms for the promotion and sustainability of best practice. Innovative
ICT-based TVET initiatives will be identified by a panel of experts in the
field and their developers will have the opportunity to present their work
at the Summit. The panel will designate one TVET project as the "African
Educational ICT Landmark Project" and it will receive support until the next
Summit in 2008, when another landmark initiative will be selected.
Discussions and plenaries will investigate how eLearning can be used
effectively in technical vocational education and training, how ICT-based
training can help bridge the gap between theory and practice, and which
best-practice cases from other backgrounds can serve as role models. The
event will provide insight into the current status of eLearning in TVET and
enable participants to exchange
experience.
The African TVET Summit is supported by the Kenyan Ministry for Education,
the UNESCO International Centre for Technical and Vocational Education and
Training (UNESCO-UNEVOC), the UNESCO Regional Office for Education in Africa
(UNESCO/BREDA), the Commonwealth of Learning, the German Federal Institute
for Vocational Education and Training and the organisers of the eLearning
Africa conference, ICWE and Hoffmann & Reif Consultants.
Regularly updated information on the Summit and the eLearning Africa
conference programme can be found at www.eLearning-Africa.com.
eLearning Africa 2007 takes place from May 28 to 30, 2007, under the
patronage of the Hon. Prof. George Saitoti, Minister for Education, Kenya.
It is the largest pan-African conference with a focus on ICT for
development, education and training on the Continent. It is organised by
ICWE GmbH and Hoffmann & Reif Consultants to establish and
link a network
and community of decision makers from governments and administrations with
universities, schools, governmental and private training providers,
industry, and important partners in development cooperation. Each year a
different African country will serve as the venue.
