It is encouraging to see that we are constantly seeing a increasing gender balance in the ICT field, the days of computer rooms full of male geeks are coming to an end.
I applaud the team but would like to send them this message, concentrate on your core strengths which is the development of applications and outsource the rest, at least for now.
This is in response to their response to a question by an interviewer where they indicate that they will use the price money to develop a corporate, read top heavy, structure and had already brought on board an accountant, marketer and I believe she said a HR person.
Entrepreneurs need to learn to spend their scarce resources where they will have the greatest return, the rest will fall in place with time. This is the same reason why
during a past CIO Breakfast I suggested that to help Virtual City maximise on their US$ 1,000,000/- equity investment from Nokia we need to have local corporates "sindikisha" them in the harambee spirit.
For example, Safaricom should sindikisha Nokia contribution to Virtual City with bandwidth, and collocation services, HP would throw in the cloud in a box and GOK offer office space and a 10 year tax holiday. If we did this then the US$1M from Nokia can be better utilised by Virtual City in developing the core solution and not on overhead.
In
closing, kudos girls and we look forward to seeing greater things from you.
