With Android's apps marketplace and Nokia's Ovi catching on and the install base of compatible low cost devices growing, maybe Safaricom should consider providing some access to the MPESA API so third-party developers can build applications for it rather than fully rely on the simkit.

Yes unfortunately. The distribution and migration is the key challenge. IYou would also have to have your contacts (at least those you use for M-Pesa transactions on your SIM card

Thanks MJ. I wish I could wait for the formal announcement to ask this question. To me, this is as good as formal, albeit in this forum.Does it mean we will have to get new sim cards again, the way we did with the MPESA?

Hi,

I believe since Safaricom is making money from all this wrong entries they have no incentive to implement the phonebook access capability on the MPesa menu which MJ promised to have available last year.

Can you imagine the nightmare if you send money to Nairobi City Councils pay bill number instead of Kenya Powers?  It would most likely take months to get a reversal, the phonebook lookup for MPesa and all other money transfer services must be made compulsory.

As we move into a cashless society such features need to be put in place including confirmation before transaction is effected.

Hi all,
Good question Barrack and Bob. My catch on this is that when reimbursing money sent to wron destination the telcos have already done a transaction which is chargeable. To mitigate wrong entries, the telcos require one to be careful on making the entries for the numbers and that is why when using these services (e.g MPESA, ZAP) one manually type the intended recipient's mobile phone  number.  I'm glad they do not charge for reimbursing.

Bob,

You are meticulous, that is a good question to be answered by the telcos and  regulator, sometimes i also wonder when you send an sms it doesn't get to the  recipient yet the money is deducted, what is your recourse? Im sure  millions of shillings disappear from consumers pockets this way :-).

Best Regards

Hi,he

I have noted that when you send money from mpesa to the wrong number and you request for the transaction to be reversed you do not recover the transaction costs.

When a line with credit is deactivated what happens to the credit?  With the banks a new policy requires that funds from inactive accounts need to be remitted to Central Bank.
