Subject: Re: [ISOC_KE] KIGF 2013: Call for Topics

Muchene and All,

My input is about changing the scope of ICF usual engagement and tightening the dialogue towards:

1. Decentralizing and devolution of ICT into all county government Agenda; that where the debate is ripe  and intensity is needed e.g. how would West Pokot, Tana River, Turkana, Marsabit among other county embark on this drive toward their development.

2. The need to reunite with the responsibilities of the county government with ICT and how it will be key in facilitating delivery of the outcomes and output for the governor.

I hope it will make up the agenda.

As we resolved during the last Kenya Internet Governance Forum (KIGF), the Internet Society Kenya Chapter (ISOC KE) will be convening this year's KIGF. ISOC KE formed a working group to coordinate the planning and logistics of the same. The working group has slated the KIGF to be on the 26th July 2013 at the Strathmore University Business School.

The working group sat for two meetings and  identified Internet Governance issues pertinent to the Internet and ICT sector in Kenya. These issues are not exhaustive and we therefore invite input from the public to propose topics of interest to be discussed at the KIGF. The topics can be drawn from the main IGF themes or any issues that are of interest to Kenyans.

Some of the topical areas proposed by the working group are:
  1. Electronic Voting
  2. CyberSecurity
  3. Social Media:
  4. Digital Migration
  5. Legal Issues: Intellectual Property Rights, Data protection bill,
  6. E-commerce
  7. E-governance
  8. ICT and Education
  9. Connectivity Strategies: Emphasis in connecting the Counties
  10. Universal Access: Universal Access Fund
  11. Smart Cities: Konza as a case study
  12. WCIT: Taking stock

Please send your suggestions by replying to this email on or before Monday 13th May.

Looking forward to your contributions.

Kindest Regards,

Paul Muchene
Chair, KIGF Working Group
