Good Morning Listers, As mentioned earlier by the KIGF- MAG Chair, we begin the online discussions today. *Topic: Governing Data and Protecting Privacy * The Kenya Data Protection Act <https://www.odpc.go.ke/dpa-act/>was gazetted in 2019 , An Act of Parliament to give effect to Article 31(c) and (d) of the Constitution of Kenya , 2010 (Right to privacy); - To establish the Office of the Data Protection Commissioner; - To make provision for the regulation of the processing of personal data; - To provide for the rights of data subjects and obligations of data controllers and processors; and for connected purposes To kick off these discussions, we ask; 1. As a lister how safe do you feel about the safety of your personal data online?What do you think could be done better to improve the protection of data online? 2. How safe are children and persons with disabilities on their data privacy? The paper "Learning Mobile Repairing By Doing And With Others" [0] co-authored by Valérie Payen Jean Baptiste[1] is a study of how people educate themselves to be able to provide services to others in Haiti. The situation seems very similar in Kenya, and making this kind of self taught learning process more effective is one way to increase ICT competencies for the general public. As ICT innovation occurs frequently, expecting people to learn what they need to know in an educational institution is unrealistic, instead effective means of continually acquiring new and updated knowledge are required. Adding to this.... The links/videos on the report have been removed. Is the research an ongoing exercise? Are the videos being collated and stored in a data pool/storage? I'm not sure about the platform's policies on the data. Is it a situation like FaceBook where you cannot scrape or even screenshot posts legally? I'm not acquainted with the platform but how easy is it to get/copy these videos and their respective metadata from the platform? It would be an interesting resource afterwards or even act as a source of evidence. #KeIGF2022: KICTANet Prepares New Voices to Shape The Internet Governance Space

KeSIG is one of KICTANet's capacity building programs that aims to promote diversity and inclusion in the country’s ICT policy dialogues and beyond. This years' cohort was drawn from a pool of 331 applications. The call for participation was targeted to individuals across the country interested in ICT policy and regulations. 118 applicants were selected ensuring gender, stakeholder and regional balance: Females (62), male (54), preferred not to say (1) and other (1). In terms of sectors, within the civil society organisations (14), academia (23), private sector (53), public sector (20) and from the media. Dear Listers, The Kenya ICT Action Network (KICTANet), in collaboration with Access Now, ARTICLE 19 Eastern and the Africa Center for Intellectual Property and Information Technology Law (CIPIT), considered the four regulations: 1. The Kenya Information and Communications (Broadcasting ) Regulations, 2022; 2. The Kenya Information and Communications (Registration of Telecommunications Service Subscribers) Regulations, 2022; 3. The Kenya Information and Communications (Access and Infrastructure Sharing) regulations; and, 4. The Kenya Information and Communications (Interconnection) Regulations 2022.
