Lucy Good suggestion. I can see that your activist self still burns with fire. Yes, I would like to be involved in action that would help this situation. We need a degree of consensus (a) the needed action as this would be a KICTANET (or at least a good cross section of its members) position and (b) the process for that action. From your note, I get the sense that you are proposing a paid ad/announcement in the paper; words (crafting the opinion once we have the facts) are the easier option. We need enough people to support this both in word and action (payment for the ad). I am wondering how many people are in support of this. NB: Dr Ndemo has indicated that the procurement law may be the issue. That is correct. I also know that unchallenges untruths become "truth", which is what the paid announcement would counter. Bw. Gaitho, With all due respect the messenger does need to be shot if their intentions appear suspect. Nobody questions that the issue is under investigation and from what I re-read it appears that KAAC was sent back to the drawing board since their report from April did not result in any prosecutions so they are investigating some more! What a waste of tax payers money.. The questions raised are why now with investors for the project in town, and what new information made this a "headline" news article while ignoring reporting on the positive impacts of the project aka blackout on VP opening ceremony. I don't know if this shoddy reporting will cost the country a promising project but from the postings here and elsewhere we need to mitigate the harm done by laying out the facts and giving the other side a chance to rebut. Dear Pierre, The primary reason for AFRICANN's existence is to provide Africans who cannot afford to attend ICANN meetings the opportunity to understand better the various processes, policies and issues that affect them. This linkage is provided by those Africans who are able to attend/participate in ICANN processes. So when someone (anyone) discredits AFRICANN, and especially in such a manner as Ms Bekele has done, I believe that it is only appropriate that the community be informed. Does the kenic board understand the magnitude of the importance of .ke to the thousands of businesses in this country that rely on this critical resource? Imagine waking up and finding that nation.co.ke, safaricom.co.ke, standardmedia.co.ke, mocality.co.ke, google.co.ke, just to mention a few, are all down. There's such a probability. Rumour has it the current staff can't cope with Buruchara's style of management (or better way of changing things), and unrealistic board resolutions. So, who will be in charge of our domains? Talk of a player being a referee too. Who owns kenic? Is it a few individuals? If I own a .ke domain, am I not a stakeholder of .ke? Food for thought

Macharia, I assumed you have been following the debate. Ordinariry we have been broadcasting in Standard Definition or SD. This format is oll technology that makes people look fat on the screen. High Definition or HD tends to give you an image closer to what you look in real life. Better we now have 3D that is is even better but you will have to use special glass to see the effect. Research is getting closer to get rid of the special glasses. Soon we shall get even better technologies in broadcasting. In transmission we have several technologies including Satelitte or Direct to Home (DTH) and Digital Terrestrial TV (DTT) which removes the aspect of multiple infrastructure for Analogue TV the one we are used to. To convert the digital signal to analogue TV you need a converter called a Set Top Box (STB). This is a temporary measure until new digital TVs are in the market. The question was whether the set top can transmit both the SD and HD using the current STBs in the market. I then responded that in DTH, the Personal Video Recorder (PVR) does that easily. PVR is a generic term for a device that is similar to a VCR but records television data in digital format as opposed to the VCRs analog format. VCRs utilize analog tapes to record and play programs broadcast over television, but PVRs encode video data in MPEG-1 or MPEG-2 formats and store the data in a hard drive. PVRs have all of the same functionality of VCRs (recording, playback, fast forwarding, rewinding, and pausing) plus the ability to instantly jump to any part of the program without having to rewind or fast forward the data stream.
