The laws may be well-intended; our corrupt "culture" isn't supportive. As my friend says: the higher the fines, the higher the bargaining power for the police. Often, they will ask to be "met halfway", making the argument that "you eat where you work"; and that sending money to Treasury will be "eaten anyway by Kenyans like you". Simple: you are a Kenyan like those that will eat it out there! Eat! That is my country 50 years down the road. @Kioko, good observation...that in general high income can improve ur affordability rating since affordabilty is a ratio of unit price for broadband internet against average incomes. however this is not always the case. Just supposing the delay was effected until midnight June 17, 2015.... Recalling 29 November, 2013 post to this list, "....post 2015, [neighbouring countries] digital broadcasts are protected from analogue broadcast interferences from a distance of 200 km from the borders..." Which means that only a small area in central Kenya would be allowed to receive analogue signals while all areas within 200 km off Kenyan borders would be signal blank, suggesting, Kisumu, Malaba, Mombasa, even Nairobi(or parts thereoff) would be affected. Laying fiber alongside Roads / Buildings under construction should be compulsory - in Africa!

Dear Listers, This is a subject that really troubles me. Today, Africa is the destination for mega infrastructure projects especially in Roads and Building Construction. "Real Estate Boom" in now a common term in our continent and even bigger in Kenya. But I still don't understand why we would spend a fortune to put up magnificent roads and buildings (of course sewer lines. water pipes and basic drainage along the roads are usually sorted out) and forget to lay fiber cables - the cheapest of the ingredients! In my opinion, this is a mistake that can be stopped! What needs to be done to change this? Regards Bob.

Postal Services provide such basic services in elementary communication that sometimes they would need to ran, for at least an entire country to communicate, even if they are doing so at a loss. As an example, I doubt there is little business sense having a Post Office for the whole of Turkana County, but, basic service delivery demands it. In a way, and as a country, we need to look at the previous Kenya Posts & Telecommunications as one with some parts by default probably being the revenue earners, others due to their very nature, revenue lossers. The targets we set Postal Services should primarily be about service delivery & revenue generation second. It would hence make more sense if Postal Services could guarantee delivery of parcels across the country in say 7 days, and hence boost eCommerce significantly when everyone, including that guy in North Horr has a distinct Postal Address rather than make a few billion shillings in profits by closing most of the postal outlets. Why internet costs in East Africa remain stubbornly high

Hi Listers, I recently met a group of Russian developers who have a GSM base station that sells at a tenth of the mainstream ones as it is based on open source technology. The product could have a massive impact on many of Kenya's far-flung communities as it would allow them to set up community based communication networks especially where the ARPU is too low for the commercial operators to venture. For this to work we need to provide a license free GSM frequency such as the 2.5 ghz that is used for data networks, do you know if there is such a provision in the CCK regulations? Hi, Yesterday PCK launched their payment platform which allows me to regurgitate a post, below, that I did in 2010 when I started my public campaign to be appointed the PMG.
