NEW ICT REGULATIONS ON MEDIA

I would like to state categorically that as much as the media regulations are controversial as claimed there is need to treat the matter with sobriety. There are two sides of the coin and just a government system -there is need for checks and balances. As much as the media is the government's watchdog it should be true to its role of exposing unethical values in the society instead of resonating to the same string of decaying our society with an immoral programs that corrupt our young generations' minds. One thing I can never stoop low to, is to support the media on crying for censorship of programs that will bring them profit at the expense of upbringing a morally upright society. There can be other debatable issues in the draft including censorship of government's inappropriate actions, cross media ownership, subsidizing one business with another but till Christ comes back morals, values and culture are pillars for country that is heading to the right direction of success. The story on page 16 of The standard newspaper link http://www.standardmedia.co.ke/mag/InsidePage.php?id=2000001283&cid=459&, left me wondering how some of the information got into the hands of the "investigators" and what would happen if such information fell in the hands of Criminals. Dear listers, Attached is a program and directions for our "town hall" meeting with the PS on the Malili technopolis. Please note that the conference hall can accommodate 60 people seated. We shall have tea/coffee/drinking chocolate, water and snacks. A projector and screen will be available. We shall start at exactly 9 am and stick to the program. See you all on Thur at 9 am. http://haiti.ushahidi.com/ Ushahidi is an organization that created a free and open source mapping and content management system which can be used by organizations worldwide in crisis-related situations. The main goal of the organization is to create a system that facilitates early warning systems and helps in data visualization for response and recovery. The Ushahidi platform has been used to monitor elections in India, Mexico, Lebanon and Afghanistan. It has been deployed in the DR Congo to track unrest, Zambia to monitor medicine stockouts and the Philippines to track the mobile phone companies. It is now being used in the Haiti Earthquake disaster. I have been posting this info to Haiti mailing lists and friends living in Haiti, and I think it is one of the great "crossover" success stories for Kenya and Kenyans: that an online crisis-response platform, created by a Kenyans to address the civil conflict in Kenya in 2008, should now be so helpful for people half a world away. Ushahidi is seeking to expand use of this platform and its services globally, and in particular is eager for women and women's groups to get involved.
